Race Description
The Grand Traverse, a renowned backcountry ski race, was first conceived in the 1990s by Jan Runge and has become a significant event in Crested Butte, Colorado. Inspired by historical mail routes and other ski races in Switzerland, the competition started in 1998 and has grown to include various summer and winter events.
This event not only attracts competitors but also serves as a major fundraiser for Crested Butte Nordic since its ownership transfer in 2012. Scheduled to take place from March 30 to August 31, 2025, the Grand Traverse now includes a winter ski race, a summer mountain run, and a mountain bike race, making it a versatile fixture in the local sporting calendar.
